Sunken ramp at the Roer Tunnel A73

In Roermond, the A73 motorway was constructed below ground level with the aid of a tunnel. On the south side of this tunnel, the ramp was executed using a geomembrane construction. Genap, on the commission of the joint venture between Besix & Strukton, applied a total of 19,000 m² of PVC 1.3 mm KIWA/ATA geomembrane under wet conditions. Since this involved connecting to a tunnel section, a temporary excavation pit was used to waterproof the geomembrane construction at the correct depth and connect it to the tunnel section using an embedding profile.

After the application of the geomembrane, its watertightness was tested using the KUL method, developed by the University of Leuven.
